Brief Introduction

Across the country over 6 million people have responsibility for looking after someone. On Wirral alone there are 37,500.

It’s estimated that nationally the work of unpaid carers saves the country a staggering £57 billion – that’s equal to the entire cost of the NHS. Yet it often feels that the job of caring is simply one that we’re left to get on with.

Everyone we’ve spoken to has said that finding information about services, about benefits, and about the people that can help isn’t easy, and since it’s only too easy to be overwhelmed by too much information we’ve divided the site into different sections. Just click on the bit that interests you or type a word into the “Search the Site” box.

Survey

Carers are invited to take part in the 2009 Carers Week survey, which can be completed at www.carersweeksurvey.org.uk

The survey will bring to the fore the issues carers say are the most important to them, and will give carers the opportunity to share their experience of caring; the personal stories of the stresses and strains; the ups and the downs.

The stories and experiences that carers describe will together create an overall picture and a set of results, which will be at the centre of Carers Week 2009. All information provided by carers will be private and confidential.
